C-Reactive Protein (CRP)

Inflammatory
Normal range
< 1.0 mg/dL (< 10 mg/L)

SI: < 10 mg/L

☎ When to call

Escalate the clinical source, not the number — a rising CRP with a worsening patient strengthens your SBAR.

What you do
  • Nonspecific smoke alarm — it says 'inflammation somewhere', not where
  • Most useful as a trend: falling CRP supports antibiotic response
Causes of HIGH c-reactive protein
Any inflammation: infection, autoimmune flare, post-opMI, malignancy
Causes of LOW c-reactive protein
Normal — good
